An au pair is a young person between 18 and 30 years who becomes a temporary member of a family.
In exchange for free board and lodging, a private room and pocket money ((110 euro a week approx) the au pair will take care of children and help with light housework The costs for flight and language courses are usually paid for by the au pair. The usual duration of stay is 6 months to one year although shorter stays of 3 months are available in the summer only.

Duties of an Au Pair
The precise duties of each type of Au Pair depend upon the individual needs of the family.
Typically an Au Pair performs the following functions:
- Bringing children to and from school
- Playing with children
- Helping with homework
- Light housework
- Preparing simple meals
An Au Pair is like an elder sister to the family, and as such, should be treated as part of your family. An Au Pair is not a cleaner and is not responsible for heavy household duties.
